Before choosing a material

01

Locate the insulation layer

Backup layers, seals and protected hot-face positions have different requirements. Identify where the material sits in the complete lining. An insulating product is not automatically suitable for direct process contact.

02

Compare the relevant properties

Discuss layer thickness, interface temperatures, compressive loading and chemical exposure. Thermal-conductivity values need their test temperature and specimen condition. A classification temperature should not be treated as a universal continuous-use limit.

03

Discuss the complete assembly

For fibre products, include atmosphere, gas velocity, anchoring and grade-specific safety information in the review. For boards and bricks, share the layer drawing or existing dimensions. Any energy-saving assessment needs the actual lining and operating basis.
