Refractories for Glass Furnace Regenerators

A glass-furnace regenerator enquiry needs the location and function of the refractory component. Compare selected magnesia bricks, drawing-based shapes and jointing materials around the existing arrangement. Regenerator suitability does not automatically establish suitability for molten-glass contact.

Start with the lining position

01

Regenerator brick positions

Identify the regenerator section, existing grade and brick geometry. Include glass composition, fuel, carryover or deposits and reversing-cycle information when available. The catalogue’s magnesia products refer to selected positions; nominal purity alone is not a complete selection basis.

02

Walls, supports and special shapes

Tubular and hanger shapes require the assembly drawing as well as the individual part dimensions. Discuss load, support interfaces, joints, expansion provisions and replacement access. A drawing-based component should be checked against the surrounding assembly before dimensions and quantities are finalised.

03

Joints and adjacent lining interfaces

Mortars should be discussed with the selected brick and joint design. State the existing joint material and the interface you need to replace. For an adjacent insulation layer, provide the full lining arrangement so its actual exposure can be reviewed separately.

Common enquiry questions

Are regenerator materials also suitable for a glass-contact tank?

That requires a separate review. The catalogue positions described here concern selected regenerator and structural arrangements. Share the actual contact position before discussing a tank or other glass-contact requirement.

What is needed to discuss a replacement special shape?

A drawing or clear photo, existing dimensions, quantity and assembly location can begin the discussion. Final dimensions, tolerances, material and support interfaces should be confirmed against an agreed drawing.

Does a higher magnesia designation automatically mean a better replacement?

No. Composition is only part of the comparison. The selected grade also needs to match the chemical exposure, thermal cycling, load and surrounding assembly. Use the approved grade sheet for the supply specification.
